MATERIALS

+ What makes up Platinum?
Platinum is one of the earth's rarest elements (30 times more rare than gold) and a desirable metal for jewelry-making. Platinum's naturally brilliant, the white sheen will not discolor or fade with time and is one of the most enduring metals your jewelry can be made of. Platinum should never be mistaken for white gold. The two metals differ not only in strength but also in color. White gold is produced initially from yellow gold, while platinum is already a white metal. When you select platinum jewelry, you're buying a product that consists of a metal that's almost entirely pure. Our platinum is 90% pure (with 900 finenesses stamped inside pieces); its purity makes it naturally hypoallergenic and an excellent choice for sensitive skin.

+ What makes up 14k Gold?
We give the name “24kt” to pure gold. Pure gold is too soft for jewelry making, so when gold is used in jewelry, other metals/alloys are always combined to give it strength and durability, resulting in 22K, 18K, 14K, 12K, and 10K gold. The mix of alloys (which ones and what percentages) used in each mixture determines the desired color and strength of the resulting gold. We only use real, solid 14-karat gold in our jewelry. We love working with 14-karat gold; it is beautiful and durable for everyday wear. 14-karat specifically refers to the metal mix that is 58.3% gold and always comes with a stamp that indicates its metal mixture 585 (meaning 58.5% gold).

+ What makes up 14k Gold Filled?
"Gold-filled" is a USA industry standard that legally requires 1/20th or 5% pure gold by weight. It's a strictly regulated process that involves pressure bonding multiple layers of solid 14k gold with extreme heat over a core of high-quality metal (Jeweler's brass), resulting in a durable, quality gold product. The coat of gold is thick, and with proper care, it will not peel or flake like gold-plated (0.05% gold) product does. Gold-filled is much more valuable as filled has 100% more gold than gold plating. In addition to 14k solid gold, we also choose to work with 14k Gold-filled because it allows us to offer top-of-the-line quality at an affordable price.

+ What makes up Sterling Silver?
Pure silver has an actual silver content of 99.9%. Pure silver is too soft to use in jewelry making, so it is commonly combined with other metals to increase hardness and produce a much durable product. The most popular of these alloys is 925 sterling silver, which consists of 92.5 pure silver plus 7.5 percent copper. We're one of the very few fine jewelers to work with high-quality silver. Our sterling silver earrings are hypoallergenic, and with proper care, your pieces will be with you for years and years without tarnishing.
